All-around decent human being
Chief Master Sgt. Matt Proietti is superintendent of the 4th Combat Camera Squadron at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.
He was formerly reserve assistant to the public affairs career field manager at the Pentagon, where he helped oversee the education, training and career development of 1,400 photojournalists and broadcast journalists.
Chief Proietti enlisted in the Air Force in 1984 and joined the Air Force Reserve in 1988. He is a four-time recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest honor in military journalism.
He deployed to Southwest Asia as chief of public affairs for the 386th Air Expeditionary Group and has supported U.S. Air Forces in Europe missions on multiple occasions. He led the Air Force news team in Washington, D.C., in 2007-2008; directed the Air Force Media Contest from 2009-2011; and helped stand up the Air Force Public Affairs Agency in San Antonio from 2010-2014. He was named to the Reserve’s 2013-2014 Key Personnel Lists and its 2011 Command Chief Candidate List.
As a civilian, he is a former community newspaper editor and serves as a disaster reservist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Chief Proietti has served on extended active duty much of the past four years as public affairs manager for the Reserve’s Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program. He is the author of At All Costs, a biography of Medal of Honor recipient Chief Master Sgt. Richard L. Etchberger that was included on the 2016 Air Force Chief of Staff Reading List.
