60 Today: Why I Refuse to Age Like Everyone Else

I Turn 60 Today: Growing Up Without Growing Old Ep 410, July 1, 2026
The Power of Friendship with Andy Grant and High School Friends
Hello, I’m Andy Grant, host of Real Men Feel. Today marks a significant milestone as I turn sixty. It’s surreal to even say that because for much of my life, I didn’t imagine I’d make it past twenty. Now, here I am, officially three times older than I ever expected to be during my younger days. But surprisingly, I don’t feel all that physically different from how I did at thirty.
Reflections on Personal Growth
In fact, I can confidently say I’m in better shape now than I was when I graduated from university. I weigh less, I’m stronger, and I’m more fit. Perhaps that just proves that I graduated as a, well, less-than-healthy individual, but still. Many look back at their younger selves and see that time as their peak, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
One of the most misleading pieces of advice about aging is the notion that life is downhill after a certain age. I’ve heard markers placed at thirty, then forty, forty-five, fifty, then sixty. Eventually, people stop pinpointing and accept the whole journey as a decline. But I don’t buy that.
Challenging the Age-Old Belief
This belief may be true for some, but not for me. The next time you hear, “Just wait until you’re older,” or, “It’s all downhill from here,” challenge it by saying, “That may be true for you, but it isn’t true for me.” Growing up does not have to mean growing old.
I’ve met men who felt great well into their eighties and even nineties. Not because their lives were without hardship, but because they committed to learning, moving, trying new things, laughing, and truly living.
Advice for a Fulfilling Life
So now, at sixty, here’s some of the best advice I have to offer:
- Never stop learning.
- Never stop trying new things.
- Never stop having fun.
- Don’t waste your life needing to be right all the time.
A lot of men would rather be right than be happy. Sometimes, you can have both, but if you must choose, prioritizing happiness will lead to a more joyful life.
Conclusion
Life is good, and it’s possible to grow up without feeling like you’re growing old. For me, this isn’t the end—I’m just getting started. Embrace your age, challenge societal norms, and live a life full of growth and joy.
