Healing From Trauma | Moving From Pain to Possibility

I have yet to meet anyone who hasn't suffered some form of trauma. It seems that the human experience was made to include trauma. Trauma doesn't just mean physical abuse, sexual abuse, and war. It can be more minor things like not having all your needs met at any point in childhood. The simplest definition of trauma is anything too high in magnitude for you to deal with at the time.

My guest today, Greg Wieting, helps leaders and entrepreneurs heal anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and trauma so they can lead with bold and courageous hearts.

For two decades, he's helped hundreds of clients reduce or eliminate their dependence on antidepressants, anxiety, pain, and sleep meds. He addresses the unresolved trauma that causes inflammation, compromises immune function, stagnates emotion, fogs thought, and creates hormonal imbalance.

He is the founder of PRISMA – a framework overlaying trauma, neuroscience, and energy medicine with somatic and mindfulness-based practices. He developed this while healing his anxiety, depression, and chronic pain rooted in trauma. This included unraveling a severe spinal curvature and standing three inches taller today!

We explore attachment wounding, unmet needs, and unresolved trauma. As well as the benefits of energy medicine and trying things you've never heard of.

Hello, and welcome to 2023 and
to the eighth year of real men

2
00:00:05,600 --> 00:00:07,500
field.
Wow.

3
00:00:07,900 --> 00:00:09,800
I can't believe this has been
going on for eight years, but

4
00:00:09,900 --> 00:00:11,600
I'm very, very glad that it has
been.

5
00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:15,000
I'm your host author coach and
healer and Ygritte, you can

visit the Andy Grant.com to
learn more, about me, real men,

7
00:00:18,400 --> 00:00:21,800
feeling gauges and conversations
that most men aren't having, but

8
00:00:21,800 --> 00:00:25,300
that all men can benefit from
remind men that you are human,

9
00:00:25,600 --> 00:00:28,000
and you have the right to
experience and express all of

10
00:00:28,000 --> 00:00:30,400
your emotions I have yet to meet
anyone.

11
00:00:30,600 --> 00:00:33,500
One who hasn't suffered some
form of trauma in their life.

12
00:00:34,100 --> 00:00:37,100
No, it seems that the Human
Experience was made to include

13
00:00:37,100 --> 00:00:40,600
trauma for Saul and Trauma,
doesn't just mean the physical

14
00:00:40,600 --> 00:00:43,000
abuse, sexual, abuse wore the
big things.

15
00:00:43,200 --> 00:00:46,500
It could be much smaller things.
Trauma would have with a small T

16
00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:50,200
it can be not having your needs
met at any point in your

17
00:00:50,200 --> 00:00:52,500
childhood.
The simplest definition of

18
00:00:52,500 --> 00:00:55,200
trauma that I've heard is
anything that was too high at

19
00:00:55,200 --> 00:00:58,900
magnitude for you to deal with.
At the time my guest today Greg

20
00:00:58,900 --> 00:01:00,500
Whiting helps leaders and
entrepreneurs.

21
00:01:00,600 --> 00:01:02,300
Course, he'll anxiety
depression.

22
00:01:02,300 --> 00:01:05,800
Chronic pain and Trauma so they
can lead with bold and

23
00:01:05,800 --> 00:01:08,200
courageous hearts for two
decades.

24
00:01:08,200 --> 00:01:10,600
He's helped hundreds of clients
reduce or eliminate their

25
00:01:10,600 --> 00:01:14,300
dependence on antidepressants,
anxiety, pain, and sleep meds.

26
00:01:14,700 --> 00:01:17,700
He addresses the unresolved
trauma that causes, inflammation

27
00:01:18,000 --> 00:01:22,000
compromises, immune function,
stagnates emotion fogs thought

28
00:01:22,100 --> 00:01:23,600
and creates him mortal
imbalance.

29
00:01:24,100 --> 00:01:26,600
He is the founder of Prisma a
framework.

30
00:01:26,600 --> 00:01:29,900
Overlaying trauma neuroscience
and Energy Medicine with

31
00:01:29,900 --> 00:01:31,300
somatic.
And And mindfulness based

32
00:01:31,300 --> 00:01:34,800
practices he developed this
while healing his own anxiety,

33
00:01:34,800 --> 00:01:37,000
depression, and chronic pain
rooted in trauma.

34
00:01:37,700 --> 00:01:40,800
This included unraveling a
severe spinal curvature and

35
00:01:40,800 --> 00:01:42,700
standing three inches taller
today.

36
00:01:43,700 --> 00:01:47,500
Again, I must say, wow, welcome
to room and feel, Greg.

37
00:01:48,400 --> 00:01:50,000
Thanks for having me, any good
to be here?

38
00:01:50,300 --> 00:01:54,400
Yeah, let's just jump right in
and tell me a bit about your

39
00:01:54,400 --> 00:01:56,900
experience with trauma as when
you were growing up.

40
00:01:57,400 --> 00:01:58,700
Sure.
Yeah.

41
00:01:58,700 --> 00:02:02,300
I appreciate kind of your intro.
Just not having developmental

42
00:02:02,300 --> 00:02:06,400
needs met can very much signal
life or death in early

43
00:02:06,400 --> 00:02:08,600
development, right?
And that gonna is going to set

44
00:02:08,600 --> 00:02:12,300
the system up for
hyper-vigilance for fight.

45
00:02:12,300 --> 00:02:16,400
Flight, freeze, appease, where
we're losing access to our upper

46
00:02:16,400 --> 00:02:20,400
brain of logic and reason, and
we're defaulting to our lower

47
00:02:20,400 --> 00:02:22,500
brain.
That is completely organized

48
00:02:22,500 --> 00:02:26,500
around survival, and that
imprints, upon us, and sets up

49
00:02:26,500 --> 00:02:29,700
an entire cycle of behaviors and
beliefs.

50
00:02:29,700 --> 00:02:34,800
And You know, nervous system
drives that can in the long run

51
00:02:34,800 --> 00:02:37,300
although they're trying to
protect us and save us, can

52
00:02:37,300 --> 00:02:41,000
really deplete us can really
wipe out, you know, our life

53
00:02:41,000 --> 00:02:45,300
force energy and I appreciate
that definition of trauma, two.

54
00:02:45,800 --> 00:02:48,600
You know, trauma is not just the
bad things that happened to us.

55
00:02:48,600 --> 00:02:52,200
It can also be an early
development, not getting enough

56
00:02:52,200 --> 00:02:55,400
of the good things.
So trauma can be too much too

57
00:02:55,400 --> 00:03:00,200
soon or too much for too long or
not enough for too long.

58
00:03:01,200 --> 00:03:06,300
And so yeah, my my journey into
the world of healing was first

59
00:03:06,500 --> 00:03:09,200
and foremost to start to
address.

60
00:03:09,300 --> 00:03:13,700
You know, what was debilitating,
chronic pain and anxiety, and

61
00:03:13,700 --> 00:03:15,600
depression.
That at first, I really didn't

62
00:03:15,600 --> 00:03:18,600
understand was, you know,
symptomatic of unresolved

63
00:03:18,600 --> 00:03:20,800
trauma.
And I found that a lot of

64
00:03:20,900 --> 00:03:24,800
traditional approaches to
therapy and Healthcare were

65
00:03:24,800 --> 00:03:28,500
really ill equipped to address
the residue of trauma that was

66
00:03:28,500 --> 00:03:31,600
stored in my body.
That was keeping Me stuck in

67
00:03:31,600 --> 00:03:35,600
these cycles of pain depression
and anxiety which there's a big

68
00:03:35,600 --> 00:03:40,000
relationship between those three
all being trauma response.

69
00:03:40,400 --> 00:03:44,000
So yeah over the years I've just
been on a path of Discovery and

70
00:03:44,000 --> 00:03:48,600
growth and as I've unraveled my
spine and you know no longer

71
00:03:48,600 --> 00:03:50,900
live in pain, anxiety, or
depression.

72
00:03:51,500 --> 00:03:53,800
I've really learned how to
reverse engineer.

73
00:03:53,800 --> 00:03:57,300
What?
I have learned to now make as

74
00:03:57,600 --> 00:04:00,400
practical and accessible of a
healing system.

75
00:04:00,600 --> 00:04:02,200
Possible.
It's really helped.

76
00:04:02,200 --> 00:04:05,300
People have the power to heal
themselves in their own hands.

77
00:04:06,300 --> 00:04:08,300
Boo, that's what I find time and
time again.

78
00:04:08,300 --> 00:04:10,900
And everything I've ever done
with with a client is something

79
00:04:10,900 --> 00:04:14,300
that I first saw it and used on
myself for my own healing.

80
00:04:14,500 --> 00:04:16,000
So it sounds like that's your
experience as well.

81
00:04:16,700 --> 00:04:19,200
Yeah, and I think the value in
that I was just speaking with a

82
00:04:19,207 --> 00:04:23,200
client the other day that they
are learning and growing and

83
00:04:23,200 --> 00:04:28,600
healing just as much from my
example as they are from what I

84
00:04:28,608 --> 00:04:31,900
teach and practice.
And that's really just helping

85
00:04:31,900 --> 00:04:34,700
to normalize just The Human
Condition.

86
00:04:34,700 --> 00:04:37,700
I think there's so much stigma
around mental health.

87
00:04:37,800 --> 00:04:42,000
And, you know, my take is that.
What if our anxiety and our

88
00:04:42,000 --> 00:04:46,000
depression and our pain are
actually healthy responses to an

89
00:04:46,000 --> 00:04:50,900
unhealthy environment, and that
implies, then that perhaps that

90
00:04:51,000 --> 00:04:55,600
is really coming from a place of
our own Humanity, at our own

91
00:04:55,600 --> 00:04:57,500
sensitivity, to The Human
Condition.

92
00:04:57,500 --> 00:05:02,500
And that is actually a really
good thing and To dissolve and

93
00:05:02,500 --> 00:05:05,900
set aside any stigma around
mental health, gives us the

94
00:05:05,900 --> 00:05:11,800
opportunity to develop a healing
practice, that is not just about

95
00:05:11,900 --> 00:05:15,300
resolving pain, but actually
helping to open us up to our

96
00:05:15,300 --> 00:05:19,600
human potential.
Yeah, I could not agree more.

97
00:05:20,700 --> 00:05:23,800
I've so I was diagnosed as
bipolar at age.

98
00:05:23,800 --> 00:05:28,200
I think 13 and had felt
depression anxiety as young as I

99
00:05:28,200 --> 00:05:31,600
can remember, but and it always
seemed that getting any of those

100
00:05:31,600 --> 00:05:33,000
labels met.
You you're doing something

101
00:05:33,000 --> 00:05:34,700
wrong.
Something was broken.

102
00:05:34,700 --> 00:05:38,100
It wasn't working, right?
But as you said sometimes, the,

103
00:05:38,100 --> 00:05:42,500
the most ideal proper reaction
to something is being depressed

104
00:05:42,500 --> 00:05:46,100
about it or being anxious about
it, that that is part of our

105
00:05:46,100 --> 00:05:48,800
natural.
So it's part of our natural

106
00:05:48,800 --> 00:05:50,800
healing to have those reactions
at times.

107
00:05:51,100 --> 00:05:55,200
Yeah.
You know, I find well, you know,

108
00:05:55,200 --> 00:05:58,400
a lot of folks and, you know, I
think there's a time and a place

109
00:05:58,400 --> 00:06:02,300
for pain and symptom management,
you know, I want to honor that

110
00:06:02,300 --> 00:06:06,000
but a lot of times when we get a
diagnosis it makes it real easy

111
00:06:06,000 --> 00:06:09,300
for the pharmaceutical companies
to slap a drug at it.

112
00:06:09,300 --> 00:06:11,900
And again, there's a time and a
place, but a lot of folks are

113
00:06:11,900 --> 00:06:15,300
being told we need to treat this
chemical imbalance, even the

114
00:06:15,300 --> 00:06:18,700
research hasn't proven that
Unbalanced is the cause of

115
00:06:18,700 --> 00:06:23,100
anxiety or depression.
And the implication there is

116
00:06:23,100 --> 00:06:25,200
that, well, you have a chemical
imbalance.

117
00:06:25,200 --> 00:06:28,200
So something's wrong with you.
That needs to be fixed.

118
00:06:28,200 --> 00:06:31,400
That needs to be addressed
without actually looking at.

119
00:06:31,400 --> 00:06:34,300
Well, what if that chemical
imbalance is actually just a

120
00:06:34,300 --> 00:06:39,200
symptom of again, attachment
wounding not having our

121
00:06:39,200 --> 00:06:42,900
developmental needs met and
unresolved trauma and those

122
00:06:42,900 --> 00:06:46,900
pieces are very much related to
the environment, right?

123
00:06:47,100 --> 00:06:50,900
But in treating the individual,
it's putting all the focus on

124
00:06:50,900 --> 00:06:55,700
the individual as if it's their
sole problem to resolve.

125
00:06:55,700 --> 00:06:59,000
When this is much more of a
larger societal, you know piece

126
00:06:59,100 --> 00:07:00,700
where that's the other piece
around trauma.

127
00:07:00,700 --> 00:07:04,200
I think it's any lived
experience that we that is

128
00:07:04,200 --> 00:07:07,500
overwhelming, historically that
we have had to carry the weight

129
00:07:07,500 --> 00:07:11,500
of in isolation, so a lack of
safety and a lack of support.

130
00:07:11,600 --> 00:07:15,300
And so we're living in a culture
that feeds off of fear that

131
00:07:15,300 --> 00:07:18,300
feeds off of division.
Which is going to have a very

132
00:07:18,300 --> 00:07:22,200
caustic effect on our bodies,
our brains our nervous system.

133
00:07:23,300 --> 00:07:27,100
I remember one of the biggest
leaps I had in my growth and

134
00:07:27,100 --> 00:07:31,000
healing was the day.
I realized, I wasn't just some

135
00:07:31,000 --> 00:07:34,300
random collection of chemicals
and that I was more to that.

136
00:07:34,400 --> 00:07:37,400
And you know, I wasn't just this
meat suit that there was more to

137
00:07:37,400 --> 00:07:40,000
me and there was a source energy
and there was something the

138
00:07:40,000 --> 00:07:42,800
ability to heal anything.
I had gone through did exist.

139
00:07:43,600 --> 00:07:47,000
And another thing you mentioned
was was being overwhelmed by

140
00:07:47,000 --> 00:07:52,600
something and I find that that
state of being overwhelmed, It

141
00:07:52,608 --> 00:07:55,300
is just different from every
person, the same experience

142
00:07:55,300 --> 00:07:58,400
might make trauma in one person
and not in another is, do you

143
00:07:58,400 --> 00:08:00,300
find that?
Sure.

144
00:08:00,300 --> 00:08:03,700
Yeah, I mean, we all have a
different window of tolerance,

145
00:08:03,700 --> 00:08:05,400
for different circumstances,
right?

146
00:08:05,400 --> 00:08:08,900
So what has one of us lose
access to our upper?

147
00:08:08,900 --> 00:08:12,300
Brain reason is going to have
logic and reason is going to be

148
00:08:12,300 --> 00:08:16,100
different than what overwhelms
and flood someone else's nervous

149
00:08:16,100 --> 00:08:18,500
system.
So yeah, this is very

150
00:08:18,500 --> 00:08:22,500
personalized and, you know,
there is a story of a child

151
00:08:22,600 --> 00:08:26,500
Witness 911.
And that experience did not

152
00:08:26,500 --> 00:08:31,000
imprint upon them as PTSD
because they had support.

153
00:08:31,000 --> 00:08:33,500
And it was actually the lens
through which they saw the

154
00:08:33,500 --> 00:08:37,400
experience, they drew like a
drawing of the experience.

155
00:08:37,400 --> 00:08:41,500
And what the drawing actually
really centered and focused on

156
00:08:41,500 --> 00:08:44,500
was all of the First Responders,
right?

157
00:08:44,500 --> 00:08:48,500
So, they were orienting their
brain and their awareness to the

158
00:08:48,500 --> 00:08:52,400
helpers as opposed to just the
harm and the danger, right?

159
00:08:52,600 --> 00:08:55,400
Right?
So the the brain wasn't focused

160
00:08:55,400 --> 00:08:58,900
on just what was bad and wrong,
it was focused on what was

161
00:08:58,900 --> 00:09:02,600
positive and good.
So that didn't imprint as a

162
00:09:02,608 --> 00:09:04,900
traumatic experience for that
child.

163
00:09:04,900 --> 00:09:09,700
You know, they didn't walk away
with PTSD and there's something

164
00:09:09,700 --> 00:09:11,800
to that, right?
And that's the mindfulness.

165
00:09:11,800 --> 00:09:15,600
That is so necessary and healing
is the Mind training to

166
00:09:15,600 --> 00:09:19,000
reorient, the brain from Pain to
possibility.

167
00:09:19,400 --> 00:09:22,500
And also to help dissolve
identification with the

168
00:09:22,600 --> 00:09:24,800
Experience because there's a big
difference.

169
00:09:24,800 --> 00:09:29,100
When we say I'm overwhelmed
versus I'm experiencing

170
00:09:29,100 --> 00:09:34,600
something overwhelming, right?
So that distinction helps us

171
00:09:34,600 --> 00:09:38,400
create a space between us and
what we're experiencing.

172
00:09:38,400 --> 00:09:43,300
So we don't assume that
experience as who we are because

173
00:09:43,300 --> 00:09:46,900
that identification with
experience, then starts to embed

174
00:09:46,900 --> 00:09:48,700
it.
And then instead of it just

175
00:09:48,700 --> 00:09:52,600
being a passing experience that
comes and goes it starts To

176
00:09:52,600 --> 00:09:57,300
stick around so that the chronic
pain, that you grew up with, was

177
00:09:57,300 --> 00:09:59,100
that all related to the spinal
issues.

178
00:09:59,900 --> 00:10:03,500
So, you know, I came into this
world with scoliosis which, you

179
00:10:03,500 --> 00:10:06,400
know, there's a hereditary
component or genetic component

180
00:10:06,400 --> 00:10:11,100
to that and I look at that
anything that's hereditary or

181
00:10:11,100 --> 00:10:15,900
genetic can become kind of the
flypaper for, you know, trauma

182
00:10:15,900 --> 00:10:20,100
and other adverse experiences to
stick onto and to then

183
00:10:20,400 --> 00:10:23,200
aggravate.
And a lot of Folks would say

184
00:10:23,200 --> 00:10:26,300
that, you know, healing or
unraveling a severe curve on my

185
00:10:26,300 --> 00:10:27,700
spine.
I can't tell you how many

186
00:10:27,700 --> 00:10:31,500
doctors told me that that's
impossible, despite that being

187
00:10:31,500 --> 00:10:35,500
my experience and the more I
talk about it, I'm podcast I'm

188
00:10:35,500 --> 00:10:38,400
meeting other people who have
had similar experiences.

189
00:10:38,700 --> 00:10:42,200
So you know, that I think
there's a limitation in

190
00:10:42,200 --> 00:10:46,100
prognosis as well because if we
start to believe in what's

191
00:10:46,100 --> 00:10:49,800
possible or what's not possible
that's going to either expand,

192
00:10:49,800 --> 00:10:52,400
you know what we can experience
this.

193
00:10:52,500 --> 00:10:58,300
Truth or limit it.
And so I suspect that a lot of

194
00:10:58,300 --> 00:11:02,800
the scoliosis was aggravated and
intensified because of the

195
00:11:02,800 --> 00:11:07,300
trauma that latched onto it.
You know, I kind of geek out on

196
00:11:07,300 --> 00:11:11,200
how the body works and you know,
trauma gets stored in the

197
00:11:11,200 --> 00:11:14,100
connective tissue and fascia and
the connective tissue and fascia

198
00:11:14,100 --> 00:11:17,100
is also where we're storing
beliefs and we're we're storing

199
00:11:17,100 --> 00:11:20,700
emotions and memories.
You know, the conscious mind is

200
00:11:20,700 --> 00:11:24,600
5% of what we Think, and what we
believe, you know.

201
00:11:24,600 --> 00:11:27,300
So the majority of what we
actually, it's what we think we

202
00:11:27,300 --> 00:11:30,700
believe, but what we really
believe, the 95% is the

203
00:11:30,700 --> 00:11:32,500
subconscious and unconscious
mind.

204
00:11:32,500 --> 00:11:35,200
And that's stored in the body.
That's stored in the tissues and

205
00:11:35,200 --> 00:11:38,600
stored in the cells and that
starts to get reflected in our

206
00:11:38,600 --> 00:11:42,100
posture, the connective tissue,
where we're storing all of this

207
00:11:42,100 --> 00:11:44,900
information pulls on the muscles
and Bones.

208
00:11:45,100 --> 00:11:49,600
So, you know, the posture I was
assuming when I was identified

209
00:11:49,600 --> 00:11:53,300
with pain identified with
wounding was one of Of guarding

210
00:11:53,300 --> 00:11:56,900
and protection, right?
And so closing in on my heart,

211
00:11:56,900 --> 00:12:01,100
you know, that's very much a
depressed state right to breast

212
00:12:01,700 --> 00:12:06,900
barreling into self.
And so, as I was able to start

213
00:12:06,900 --> 00:12:10,600
to repattern these behaviors and
beliefs using tools, that

214
00:12:10,600 --> 00:12:13,700
actually help to flush it out
through the body, the somatic

215
00:12:13,700 --> 00:12:17,400
system, the Energy System, then
I was no longer carrying that

216
00:12:17,400 --> 00:12:21,300
same costume, right?
I'm no longer carrying the same

217
00:12:21,400 --> 00:12:24,200
belief system.
As and behaviors and then

218
00:12:24,200 --> 00:12:27,600
musculoskeletal skeletal
patterning that mimics, you

219
00:12:27,600 --> 00:12:31,900
know, the wounding.
And so there's a very direct

220
00:12:31,900 --> 00:12:35,200
link between what we think and
what we believe and what we

221
00:12:35,200 --> 00:12:37,600
feel.
And you know what, we're Howard,

222
00:12:37,600 --> 00:12:40,400
experiencing our bodies, and
that's going to have a ripple

223
00:12:40,400 --> 00:12:42,700
effect on our physiological
function.

224
00:12:42,700 --> 00:12:47,400
Hormonal balance, you know, our
brain nervous system in all of

225
00:12:47,400 --> 00:12:50,500
it.
What were some of the first

226
00:12:51,100 --> 00:12:54,000
programs or experiences or
things that you did that, that

227
00:12:54,000 --> 00:12:57,800
gave you a sense of hope and
that you you could heal

228
00:12:57,800 --> 00:12:59,200
everything.
You've been dealing with.

229
00:12:59,900 --> 00:13:04,400
Yeah, I had a friend who was a
massage therapist and she

230
00:13:04,400 --> 00:13:08,200
offered me a massage and at the
time I was living in so much.

231
00:13:08,200 --> 00:13:10,600
Chronic pain that I did not want
physical touch.

232
00:13:10,600 --> 00:13:12,500
I did not want a massage.
I thought that would be too

233
00:13:12,500 --> 00:13:16,400
painful and she said, well, how
about some Energy Medicine, some

234
00:13:16,400 --> 00:13:18,600
Reiki?
And at the point, I had never

235
00:13:18,600 --> 00:13:21,400
heard of energy medicine or a
key that was completely foreign

236
00:13:21,400 --> 00:13:26,500
to me, but I had implicit trust
in her and I was in a lot of

237
00:13:26,500 --> 00:13:30,000
pain and she said, well, I don't
even have to use physical touch.

238
00:13:30,000 --> 00:13:35,000
I can, you know, or just use
very light touch and within

239
00:13:35,000 --> 00:13:37,000
moments, I realized I found
something.

240
00:13:37,200 --> 00:13:40,700
I didn't even know it was
looking for it was as if I had

241
00:13:40,700 --> 00:13:44,900
suspended above my pain body
because at that point, all I

242
00:13:44,908 --> 00:13:47,900
knew was my pain.
So I was identified with my pain

243
00:13:48,100 --> 00:13:51,500
That's that's all that was and I
started to get a glimpse or a

244
00:13:51,500 --> 00:13:54,300
taste of myself outside of my
pain.

245
00:13:54,600 --> 00:13:58,000
Which was yeah, really
transformative like okay,

246
00:13:58,000 --> 00:14:01,500
there's really something here
and I get to now investigate

247
00:14:01,500 --> 00:14:05,400
that, you know, and a lot of
folks, especially if we're used

248
00:14:05,400 --> 00:14:10,600
to taking a drug to medicate to
suppress or chase a symptom of

249
00:14:10,608 --> 00:14:15,000
where you were really condition
to have these quick fixes in

250
00:14:15,000 --> 00:14:18,000
these silver bullets.
You know, I got a glimpse of my

251
00:14:18,100 --> 00:14:21,600
My who I am outside of my pain
body but once we get a taste of

252
00:14:21,600 --> 00:14:25,900
that then that made me really
hungry to seek out, what are the

253
00:14:25,900 --> 00:14:29,800
other practices and tools and
wisdoms, that can help me

254
00:14:30,000 --> 00:14:33,900
cultivate that relationship my
relationship to that part of me,

255
00:14:34,200 --> 00:14:36,700
right?
Because up until that point, you

256
00:14:36,700 --> 00:14:39,500
know, my brain, my nervous
system and my body were just

257
00:14:39,500 --> 00:14:42,400
creating this vicious cycle that
were perpetuating.

258
00:14:43,100 --> 00:14:47,200
This relationship I had with my
pain body, which was continuing

259
00:14:47,200 --> 00:14:49,700
to activate this.
Sympathetic nervous system which

260
00:14:49,700 --> 00:14:51,900
is this fight/flight response,
right?

261
00:14:51,900 --> 00:14:56,400
So I was just always on guard
and so that Glimpse gave me a

262
00:14:56,400 --> 00:15:01,000
sense of oh who am I?
If I'm not in this chronic state

263
00:15:01,000 --> 00:15:06,700
of fight or flight if I'm not on
guard and that's the essence of

264
00:15:06,700 --> 00:15:10,200
a mindfulness-based practice to
give us a glimpse of what it

265
00:15:10,200 --> 00:15:14,400
feels like to have a relaxed
alert awareness.

266
00:15:15,500 --> 00:15:19,500
So it sounds like they were his
Decades of chronic pain before

267
00:15:19,500 --> 00:15:21,500
you discover the energy Energy
Medicine.

268
00:15:22,000 --> 00:15:25,000
Yeah, at that point, you know,
through high school and college.

269
00:15:25,000 --> 00:15:27,900
I was just medicating with
alcohol.

270
00:15:28,000 --> 00:15:31,700
And, you know, once I left
College, I realized that that

271
00:15:31,700 --> 00:15:34,600
didn't want the, I didn't want
that to be the path forward.

272
00:15:34,600 --> 00:15:38,400
That just didn't seem like a
smart safe, sustainable pathway

273
00:15:38,400 --> 00:15:42,200
forward and I literally was
inches away from antidepressants

274
00:15:42,200 --> 00:15:44,800
and pain meds because I thought
that's all I knew, you know, as

275
00:15:44,900 --> 00:15:48,400
A kid I grew up with chronic ear
aches and strep throat so

276
00:15:48,400 --> 00:15:51,000
there's nothing more.
I wanted them to go to a doctor,

277
00:15:51,000 --> 00:15:55,000
take a pill and get better.
I wanted someone to fix me and

278
00:15:55,000 --> 00:15:59,200
so I was you know really going
to continue on that path and

279
00:15:59,200 --> 00:16:03,400
then I just had this this
experience that really put me on

280
00:16:03,400 --> 00:16:07,500
a new trajectory that I'm so
grateful for because, you know,

281
00:16:07,500 --> 00:16:10,500
we I think there's more and more
conversations like this

282
00:16:10,500 --> 00:16:12,600
happening today.
So there's more awareness of

283
00:16:12,800 --> 00:16:17,400
healing and Alternative Health.
Alternative approaches to you

284
00:16:17,400 --> 00:16:20,100
know, supporting Body Mind
Spirit.

285
00:16:20,500 --> 00:16:23,700
But at that point, it was all,
you know, new news to me.

286
00:16:23,800 --> 00:16:24,500
Yeah.
Yeah.

287
00:16:24,500 --> 00:16:28,100
Mary for me it was I think was
2008 before I had ever heard

288
00:16:28,100 --> 00:16:30,500
Energy Medicine and had an
experience of like, really

289
00:16:30,500 --> 00:16:32,700
feeling energy come into me and
feel me or not.

290
00:16:32,700 --> 00:16:35,200
I had thought meditation meant,
you know, sitting silently and

291
00:16:35,200 --> 00:16:37,500
having no thoughts.
Not that a sort of meditative

292
00:16:37,500 --> 00:16:41,200
experience could be energizing
and full of energy.

293
00:16:41,500 --> 00:16:43,500
But you know what?
I wanted to ask what you thought

294
00:16:43,500 --> 00:16:46,500
were some common mistakes.
He's around trauma and healing.

295
00:16:46,700 --> 00:16:48,100
And but I feel like you've hit a
couple.

296
00:16:48,100 --> 00:16:50,900
At least already is so medicate
with alcohol.

297
00:16:50,900 --> 00:16:54,300
So self-medicating or, you know,
looking for that silver bullet

298
00:16:54,300 --> 00:16:59,200
and perhaps overmedicating like
a body's proper emotional

299
00:16:59,200 --> 00:17:02,000
response to something.
What else do you see is common

300
00:17:02,000 --> 00:17:05,900
mistakes?
No, so, you know for me the

301
00:17:05,900 --> 00:17:09,200
Energy Medicine was a really
critical piece that helped me

302
00:17:09,200 --> 00:17:12,900
start to heal.
Some of the pain that I found I

303
00:17:12,900 --> 00:17:14,800
was unable to think or talk my
way.

304
00:17:14,900 --> 00:17:17,300
Real.
And don't get me wrong, I think

305
00:17:17,300 --> 00:17:19,400
talk therapy can be very
valuable.

306
00:17:19,400 --> 00:17:24,700
It's helped me a ton but to some
degree as much as it gave me a

307
00:17:24,700 --> 00:17:28,000
good intellectual, understanding
of some of my pain, some of my

308
00:17:28,000 --> 00:17:32,100
wounding, some of my
developmental trauma didn't do

309
00:17:32,100 --> 00:17:36,300
the trick in terms of helping to
flush it out of where it was

310
00:17:36,300 --> 00:17:38,500
being held within my body,
right?

311
00:17:38,500 --> 00:17:42,000
So I was still struggling with
pain, so I think it's

312
00:17:42,000 --> 00:17:44,300
understanding that.
There's just some pain, we can't

313
00:17:44,300 --> 00:17:45,300
think or talk Talk our way
through.

314
00:17:45,300 --> 00:17:49,000
Because actually, the more we
talk about our pain, the more it

315
00:17:49,000 --> 00:17:51,900
activates the sympathetic
nervous system and the more that

316
00:17:51,900 --> 00:17:53,900
will actually make our pain
chronic.

317
00:17:53,900 --> 00:18:00,500
And so finding alternative ways
to actually address the are

318
00:18:00,500 --> 00:18:03,500
wounding, whether it's anxiety,
depression, chronic pain, or

319
00:18:03,508 --> 00:18:07,900
trauma more through the body
somatically and more

320
00:18:07,900 --> 00:18:10,500
energetically through different
types of energy medicine.

321
00:18:10,500 --> 00:18:12,100
So I think that's really
important.

322
00:18:12,100 --> 00:18:16,100
And yeah, I think this whole
idea, Idea of that, there's

323
00:18:16,100 --> 00:18:20,200
nothing bad or wrong with us.
So, again removing the stigma as

324
00:18:20,200 --> 00:18:24,300
we kind of touched on already to
realize that, you know, because

325
00:18:24,300 --> 00:18:27,000
I put up until that point, it
almost felt like there was a

326
00:18:27,008 --> 00:18:31,100
monster living inside of me that
you know, this this pain was

327
00:18:31,400 --> 00:18:36,300
this monster that I was so bent
on fighting against and, you

328
00:18:36,300 --> 00:18:40,600
know, trying to fix and that
just aggravated it that just

329
00:18:40,600 --> 00:18:43,300
made it stronger.
So realizing that, what if this

330
00:18:43,300 --> 00:18:47,200
pain is An earlier part of
ourselves that needs loving

331
00:18:47,200 --> 00:18:50,300
attention.
So I think healing is developing

332
00:18:50,300 --> 00:18:54,600
a really robust compassionate,
relationship from ourselves to

333
00:18:54,600 --> 00:18:58,700
ourselves and, you know, the
essence of how I think I work

334
00:18:58,700 --> 00:19:01,500
through a trauma-informed.
Lens is we can't force that

335
00:19:01,500 --> 00:19:06,100
process, right?
It's more about slowing down to

336
00:19:06,100 --> 00:19:10,200
speed up and developing more of
a capacity to be with what is

337
00:19:10,800 --> 00:19:14,500
and instead of fighting against
what is, you know, a big piece

338
00:19:14,500 --> 00:19:18,700
of my Work is how do we start to
cultivate a sense of radical

339
00:19:18,700 --> 00:19:22,400
acceptance and love for what is
which can feel really

340
00:19:22,400 --> 00:19:24,400
counterintuitive to love our
pain?

341
00:19:24,400 --> 00:19:26,500
Because we want the pain to go
away.

342
00:19:27,100 --> 00:19:32,100
But actually that sense of
acceptance helps to disarm it.

343
00:19:32,100 --> 00:19:34,100
It helps our system start to
integrate it.

344
00:19:35,400 --> 00:19:38,600
And, you know, I think a lot of
these trauma responses that are

345
00:19:38,600 --> 00:19:42,600
organized around isolation and
alienation also have a lot of us

346
00:19:42,600 --> 00:19:45,700
thinking that it's not safe to
get Get support.

347
00:19:45,700 --> 00:19:49,000
And we've had to figure out so
much on our own.

348
00:19:49,200 --> 00:19:52,500
So I think a lot of folks think,
well, I'm just gonna have to

349
00:19:52,500 --> 00:19:57,100
figure this out on my own, and
as mammals were social

350
00:19:57,100 --> 00:20:01,100
creatures, and we are not meant
to live in isolation and we

351
00:20:01,100 --> 00:20:03,900
certainly can't heal in
isolation, you know, everything

352
00:20:03,900 --> 00:20:08,300
is relational.
So, you know, we have been hurt

353
00:20:08,300 --> 00:20:11,600
relationally and we then he'll
relationally.

354
00:20:11,900 --> 00:20:16,900
So that's a big piece.
I like like too many others have

355
00:20:16,900 --> 00:20:20,900
felt hopeless and helpless
plenty of times in my life.

356
00:20:21,800 --> 00:20:24,400
Do you believe that all trauma
can be healed?

357
00:20:26,600 --> 00:20:31,200
It's your question.
I Have come from a place of

358
00:20:31,200 --> 00:20:35,000
complete Despair and just you
know putting my arms up in the

359
00:20:35,000 --> 00:20:37,100
air and a lot of folks who come
to me.

360
00:20:37,100 --> 00:20:39,700
They literally are at the end of
their rope, you know?

361
00:20:39,700 --> 00:20:43,200
I thinking of one client who
came to me, after literally

362
00:20:43,200 --> 00:20:47,300
Decades of talk therapy and
their psychiatrist, referred

363
00:20:47,500 --> 00:20:50,400
them to me because they realized
that, although they were

364
00:20:50,400 --> 00:20:53,700
medicating for their PTSD and
their complex trauma, that was

365
00:20:53,700 --> 00:20:56,400
just helping them kind of tread
water and stay afloat.

366
00:20:56,900 --> 00:20:59,800
It wasn't actually addressing
the Underbelly.

367
00:21:00,300 --> 00:21:04,700
So yeah, I think that there's a
great possibility for us to

368
00:21:04,700 --> 00:21:09,300
heal, you know, and my Approach
isn't so much on focusing on the

369
00:21:09,300 --> 00:21:13,600
pain or the trauma.
My Approach is actually helping

370
00:21:13,700 --> 00:21:17,400
people reconnect to their innate
wisdom and innate.

371
00:21:17,400 --> 00:21:20,900
Wisdom was a term developing
Chiropractic decades ago.

372
00:21:20,900 --> 00:21:24,400
That if we get a paper cut
there's some healing mechanism

373
00:21:24,400 --> 00:21:28,900
inside of us that since
platelets and proteins and It's

374
00:21:28,900 --> 00:21:34,600
all these biochemical
transmissions and just trauma,

375
00:21:34,700 --> 00:21:38,600
wounding stress accidents
injuries hereditary

376
00:21:38,600 --> 00:21:42,300
environmental factors, you know,
short circuit our connection to

377
00:21:42,300 --> 00:21:45,900
our innate wisdom.
And when we lose connection to

378
00:21:45,900 --> 00:21:50,000
our innate wisdom, then it
compromises our ability to heal

379
00:21:50,000 --> 00:21:54,100
to, you know, work through just
the adverse experiences that

380
00:21:54,100 --> 00:21:56,400
kind of get piled onto us
through life.

381
00:21:56,900 --> 00:22:00,600
So yeah, I think it's really
remarkable how we can.

382
00:22:00,600 --> 00:22:04,900
In fact, reconnect to our innate
wisdom, you know, and another

383
00:22:04,900 --> 00:22:07,300
piece, something you said
earlier, just made me think of

384
00:22:07,300 --> 00:22:09,100
it.
But in Chinese medicine, there's

385
00:22:09,100 --> 00:22:14,100
a concept of shen or spirit and
it's like into the light that

386
00:22:14,100 --> 00:22:19,300
shines through our eyes and the
idea is that it's one light that

387
00:22:19,300 --> 00:22:21,300
is shining through all of our
eyes.

388
00:22:21,600 --> 00:22:24,600
And so, you know, when I've been
depressed and you can, we can

389
00:22:24,600 --> 00:22:27,300
see it in ourselves and others,
if we're going through a hard

390
00:22:27,300 --> 00:22:30,000
time.
It's like Eyes can kind of glaze

391
00:22:30,000 --> 00:22:32,500
or fog over.
And it's like, there's just not

392
00:22:32,500 --> 00:22:36,100
as much of that brightness
coming through our eyes.

393
00:22:36,900 --> 00:22:40,100
And so, it's like a
disconnection to Spirit a

394
00:22:40,100 --> 00:22:44,800
disconnection, to the hole.
And so, you know, I think it's

395
00:22:45,100 --> 00:22:48,900
sometimes could be a long windy
and bumpy road to reclaim that

396
00:22:48,900 --> 00:22:52,700
connection to Spirit and to
community and to ourselves and

397
00:22:52,700 --> 00:22:56,000
others, but I think with the
right tools and support it's

398
00:22:56,000 --> 00:22:58,700
very much as possible.
Yeah.

399
00:22:58,700 --> 00:23:03,900
So it's not as if someone had
their innate wisdom removed or

400
00:23:03,900 --> 00:23:06,100
they were somehow created
without it, it's just the

401
00:23:06,100 --> 00:23:08,400
connection to it.
Is what's missing?

402
00:23:09,000 --> 00:23:12,000
Yeah, that's the connection gets
distorted know, another way to

403
00:23:12,000 --> 00:23:15,600
think of it and I kind of this
is how when people ask me, how

404
00:23:15,600 --> 00:23:18,900
does energy medicine work?
You know, I talk about how the

405
00:23:18,900 --> 00:23:22,900
body Mind and Spirit are like a
symphony orchestra and all the

406
00:23:22,900 --> 00:23:26,400
different parts of the body from
every muscle to every cell to

407
00:23:26,400 --> 00:23:30,500
every thought to every hormones.
Every tissue ligament, you know,

408
00:23:30,500 --> 00:23:34,800
hormone you know, are in
constant communication but when

409
00:23:34,800 --> 00:23:37,500
we lose connection to that
innate wisdom, because of stress

410
00:23:37,500 --> 00:23:40,900
or trauma, and the nervous
system, short circuits, then all

411
00:23:40,900 --> 00:23:44,200
of a sudden these different
parts that were in harmony start

412
00:23:44,200 --> 00:23:47,500
to, you know, lose their
communication with one another.

413
00:23:47,600 --> 00:23:50,900
So it's like they turn their
backs on each other and so

414
00:23:51,200 --> 00:23:56,100
healing is just going back in to
restore that communication,

415
00:23:56,300 --> 00:23:58,400
right?
So it's breaking up the noise,

416
00:23:58,500 --> 00:24:03,100
Or the interference patterns of
the distortions so we can come

417
00:24:03,100 --> 00:24:06,700
back into the harmonic resonance
that we are, right.

418
00:24:06,700 --> 00:24:10,200
So when we're experiencing
Health there's this musicality

419
00:24:10,200 --> 00:24:15,000
of being and that resonance is
really innate to who we are.

420
00:24:15,000 --> 00:24:17,700
It's the natural expression of
our wholeness.

421
00:24:18,000 --> 00:24:21,500
So yeah, healing is just about
breaking the Distortion

422
00:24:21,500 --> 00:24:25,300
patterns, that noise that is
getting in the way of just us,

423
00:24:25,300 --> 00:24:29,800
remembering Who We Are.
So it could be the culmination

424
00:24:29,800 --> 00:24:31,600
of The Lies.
We Tell ourselves through

425
00:24:31,600 --> 00:24:34,200
negative self-talk, or what
Society, parents School,

426
00:24:34,200 --> 00:24:36,800
whatever is told us about, you
know, that that you are your

427
00:24:36,800 --> 00:24:38,700
scoliosis.
You are your depression.

428
00:24:38,700 --> 00:24:42,200
And the only thing that works is
this medicine and that just that

429
00:24:42,200 --> 00:24:44,500
that that gnomes are innate
wisdom.

430
00:24:44,900 --> 00:24:48,900
Yeah, and yeah, that numbing
piece is a big part, right?

431
00:24:48,900 --> 00:24:51,000
Dissociation.
Just kind of like a bird that

432
00:24:51,000 --> 00:24:55,200
flies into a window and drops to
the ground and it's frozen.

433
00:24:55,300 --> 00:24:57,800
You know, it may look dead.
I mean, in some cases Says, it

434
00:24:57,800 --> 00:25:01,500
may be but oftentimes the bird
is just in shock, right?

435
00:25:01,500 --> 00:25:04,500
It can't absorb and fully
process.

436
00:25:04,600 --> 00:25:06,700
The impact of flying into the
window.

437
00:25:07,000 --> 00:25:11,800
And so that experience, it takes
time for the system to absorb

438
00:25:11,800 --> 00:25:16,500
and as it is able to absorb it,
the shock wears off that freeze

439
00:25:16,500 --> 00:25:19,900
response wears off and then it
starts to Twitch and get the

440
00:25:19,900 --> 00:25:22,400
wind beneath its wings and it
can take off again.

441
00:25:23,000 --> 00:25:28,200
And so, when trauma continues to
pile up on our body, Dr. Brain

442
00:25:28,200 --> 00:25:31,400
and nervous system.
It becomes too much for us to

443
00:25:31,400 --> 00:25:35,300
feel right?
So healing is very much helping

444
00:25:35,300 --> 00:25:40,500
us develop the capacity to feel
what historically was too much

445
00:25:41,200 --> 00:25:44,500
and in doing so we start to
reclaim our own ability to feel

446
00:25:44,500 --> 00:25:48,600
ourselves and you know that
sense of touch interception is

447
00:25:48,600 --> 00:25:51,500
the pathway to more presence in
agency, right?

448
00:25:51,500 --> 00:25:54,700
And that's often what gets
hijacked with trauma, you know,

449
00:25:54,700 --> 00:25:57,200
both presence and agency.
So it's reclaiming.

450
00:25:57,400 --> 00:26:02,600
Them, I'm always amazed at how
natural it is for every animal.

451
00:26:02,600 --> 00:26:06,700
But us to that debit, little
Shake It Off ability, just

452
00:26:06,700 --> 00:26:09,900
physical release.
And you know, I don't think

453
00:26:09,900 --> 00:26:13,200
shivering is close to that
that's response to cold

454
00:26:13,200 --> 00:26:15,100
normally.
But do you think, you know,

455
00:26:15,100 --> 00:26:18,200
early man was just like other
animals and we got a wormhole we

456
00:26:18,200 --> 00:26:21,000
could literally shake it off and
have some physical release or do

457
00:26:21,000 --> 00:26:23,300
you think we've just been
different since creation when it

458
00:26:23,300 --> 00:26:29,300
comes to that?
Skip question, that's a good

459
00:26:29,300 --> 00:26:31,200
question.
I'm not sure of that, but I know

460
00:26:31,200 --> 00:26:36,200
that movement and actual shaking
is very much one of my go-to S.

461
00:26:36,200 --> 00:26:39,200
And you know, I have as much as
there's no silver bullets to

462
00:26:39,200 --> 00:26:43,400
actually heal trauma.
I do think there are some facts

463
00:26:43,400 --> 00:26:47,100
that when our nervous system
gets flooded and you know, we

464
00:26:47,400 --> 00:26:50,800
are in that state of overwhelm
that we can help to come back to

465
00:26:50,800 --> 00:26:54,400
a baseline of nervous system,
regulation and shaking is. one

466
00:26:54,400 --> 00:26:58,800
of them you know I saw just on a
nature show a gazelle being

467
00:26:58,800 --> 00:27:02,400
chased by a cheetah and the
moment the gazelle realized it

468
00:27:02,400 --> 00:27:06,300
was safe because the cheetah
gave up the chase it

469
00:27:06,300 --> 00:27:11,700
instantaneously just shook and
then went back to rest and

470
00:27:11,700 --> 00:27:16,500
digest just like eating grass
right so what the gazelle does

471
00:27:16,500 --> 00:27:20,000
that we can learn from is shake
the stress response off instead

472
00:27:20,000 --> 00:27:23,200
of think about it, retell the
story you know in that case for

473
00:27:23,200 --> 00:27:28,800
the gazelle that was Life or
death stress incident then.

474
00:27:28,800 --> 00:27:33,500
So, we can be back in the safety
and comfort of our own homes

475
00:27:33,500 --> 00:27:37,100
after a stressful incident, and
we're just replaying it

476
00:27:37,100 --> 00:27:38,900
undermines.
We're picking up the phone

477
00:27:38,900 --> 00:27:42,400
telling, friends about it, were
texting about it, so we are

478
00:27:42,400 --> 00:27:44,700
replaying it instead of shaking
it off.

479
00:27:44,700 --> 00:27:48,700
And so that's, that's a practice
that we learn how to develop

480
00:27:48,700 --> 00:27:52,000
that capacity.
It's funny an experience I had I

481
00:27:52,000 --> 00:27:54,100
told so last month, I was in Las
Vegas.

482
00:27:54,200 --> 00:27:59,100
And I did is 855 foot jump off
the the strap Tower and it

483
00:27:59,100 --> 00:28:01,700
wasn't a bungee jump.
It was as funny that I did it

484
00:28:01,708 --> 00:28:04,700
without asking how is this work.
But I was on a cable and it was

485
00:28:04,700 --> 00:28:07,800
somehow at the last, you know,
30 feet had breaks built into

486
00:28:07,800 --> 00:28:10,600
it.
So it was I was in a free fall.

487
00:28:10,700 --> 00:28:15,200
It lasted, 19 seconds.
I went as fast as 45 miles per

488
00:28:15,200 --> 00:28:19,700
hour and I was able to just land
on my feet and when I did I was

489
00:28:19,700 --> 00:28:21,900
I was all chipped up.
I was like well and life.

490
00:28:21,900 --> 00:28:25,400
It like felt like every cell was
tingling and A good 90 minutes

491
00:28:25,400 --> 00:28:27,900
for it to wear off.
And yeah, I need to do something

492
00:28:27,900 --> 00:28:28,800
else.
Physicals, I could never tell

493
00:28:28,808 --> 00:28:30,400
someone I want to get in a
fight.

494
00:28:30,400 --> 00:28:34,400
I like I'm jacked up.
I'm gonna go do some things and

495
00:28:34,500 --> 00:28:36,700
they're just probably walking
along the strip after 90

496
00:28:36,700 --> 00:28:38,700
minutes.
I finally felt normal again but

497
00:28:38,800 --> 00:28:41,000
that would been a terrific time
it just really shake it off and

498
00:28:41,000 --> 00:28:43,500
they needed some physical
release to get rid of that that

499
00:28:43,500 --> 00:28:46,100
excess adrenaline that I had
produced in my body.

500
00:28:46,500 --> 00:28:48,800
Yeah.
Now there's that extra that

501
00:28:48,800 --> 00:28:52,800
extra charge that we just need
to learn how to yeah discharge

502
00:28:52,800 --> 00:28:56,400
release.
So tell me more about what

503
00:28:56,400 --> 00:28:58,900
you've developed the Prisma.
Sure.

504
00:28:59,200 --> 00:29:01,700
Yeah.
So Prisma is a trauma and

505
00:29:01,700 --> 00:29:06,300
Neuroscience roadmap which is an
eight week course that when

506
00:29:06,400 --> 00:29:10,000
folks drawing my community or
work with me, one-on-one have

507
00:29:10,100 --> 00:29:13,800
access to this course.
And that has a bunch of tools

508
00:29:13,800 --> 00:29:18,300
and practices that help people
do just that learn how to First

509
00:29:18,300 --> 00:29:21,600
identify the nervous system and
understand how the brain and the

510
00:29:21,600 --> 00:29:24,100
body function in relationship to
stress and Trauma.

511
00:29:24,200 --> 00:29:27,500
So we can start to bring
awareness, awareness is the

512
00:29:27,500 --> 00:29:30,700
first step, you know, and I
developed this roadmap because I

513
00:29:30,700 --> 00:29:34,100
found, you know, on my healing
journey I was going to therapist

514
00:29:34,100 --> 00:29:37,300
and healers actually, for
probably years before I even

515
00:29:37,300 --> 00:29:40,500
understood with the nervous
system was and if I just had

516
00:29:40,500 --> 00:29:44,100
this knowledge base, it would
have number one, helped me have

517
00:29:44,100 --> 00:29:46,600
a better understanding of where
I am and where I'm headed.

518
00:29:46,600 --> 00:29:50,200
But it also would have helped me
to normalize my experiences to

519
00:29:50,200 --> 00:29:54,400
not pathologize my own pain in
my own wounding and how my ADI

520
00:29:54,400 --> 00:29:57,500
brain and nervous system are
responding to my pain and

521
00:29:57,500 --> 00:30:00,200
wounding.
So within that roadmap of the

522
00:30:00,200 --> 00:30:04,000
seven Prisma pillars, which
really help people kind of map a

523
00:30:04,000 --> 00:30:06,900
journey from Pain to purpose and
that's from nervous system

524
00:30:06,900 --> 00:30:11,000
regulation to embodiment getting
into our body to emotional

525
00:30:11,000 --> 00:30:12,900
Attunement.
So that's working through the

526
00:30:12,900 --> 00:30:17,400
unmet needs of early development
to values alignment.

527
00:30:17,400 --> 00:30:21,100
So we can shift from fear-based
motivation to what were inspired

528
00:30:21,100 --> 00:30:25,900
to move towards instead of away
from Narration where we can

529
00:30:26,000 --> 00:30:28,700
really flip the script on the
Sub Conscious and the

530
00:30:28,700 --> 00:30:31,100
unconscious, you know, behaviors
beliefs.

531
00:30:31,100 --> 00:30:35,100
And narratives that were telling
ourselves, that can be organized

532
00:30:35,100 --> 00:30:39,100
around pain and really keeping
us stuck so reorienting to

533
00:30:39,100 --> 00:30:43,500
possibility identity which is
really shifting our identity.

534
00:30:43,500 --> 00:30:46,600
So we're not organized around
pain and wounding but

535
00:30:46,600 --> 00:30:50,500
possibility so we can experience
ourselves as Dynamic change in

536
00:30:50,500 --> 00:30:53,600
process, you know, in bringing
that back to health, I look at

537
00:30:53,600 --> 00:30:56,200
disease.
These as stagnation and I look

538
00:30:56,200 --> 00:30:58,300
at Health as movement and
expression.

539
00:30:58,300 --> 00:31:02,100
So can we have an experience of
ourselves that's

540
00:31:02,100 --> 00:31:04,900
moment-to-moment?
Then that's not stuck and static

541
00:31:05,400 --> 00:31:10,500
and then impact can we redefine
purpose from intrinsic

542
00:31:10,500 --> 00:31:14,200
motivation instead of extrinsic
motivation and can purpose?

543
00:31:14,200 --> 00:31:18,100
Be more about who we are and
less about what we do.

544
00:31:18,200 --> 00:31:21,800
It's more about how we how we
are showing up instead of the

545
00:31:21,800 --> 00:31:23,600
actual thing.
We're performing.

546
00:31:24,200 --> 00:31:28,200
And so yeah, there's a lot of
research around how purpose is

547
00:31:28,200 --> 00:31:31,400
really necessary piece to
developing resilience.

548
00:31:31,400 --> 00:31:35,400
So the 7 Prisma pillars kind of
touch upon, you know, really

549
00:31:35,900 --> 00:31:40,300
integral components to finding a
sense of Greater wholeness and

550
00:31:40,300 --> 00:31:43,900
cohesiveness within ourselves.
So then that's paired with the

551
00:31:43,900 --> 00:31:46,900
somatic in the mindfulness based
practices, which is the Mind

552
00:31:46,900 --> 00:31:50,200
training that we kind of spoke
about to shift from Pain to

553
00:31:50,200 --> 00:31:53,700
possibility and to continue to
dissolve, that identification

554
00:31:53,700 --> 00:31:56,500
with whoo.
Wounding and then the Energy

555
00:31:56,500 --> 00:31:59,400
Medicine piece.
That's really the vehicle that

556
00:31:59,400 --> 00:32:02,500
helps us to heal the
Subterranean patterns of trauma

557
00:32:02,500 --> 00:32:04,900
stored in the body.
That yeah, we otherwise can't

558
00:32:04,900 --> 00:32:07,800
think or talk our way through,
you know, the function of Energy

559
00:32:07,800 --> 00:32:11,300
Medicine to helps to calm the
cardiovascular system regulate

560
00:32:11,300 --> 00:32:14,600
the nervous system, it
strengthens immune function and

561
00:32:14,600 --> 00:32:16,900
so in doing.
So it's reconnecting us to that.

562
00:32:16,900 --> 00:32:21,700
Any wisdom and restoring that
Symphony Orchestra that we are

563
00:32:21,700 --> 00:32:23,500
by just breaking up all that
noise.

564
00:32:24,200 --> 00:32:27,900
So over the years, I found that
those pieces when paired with

565
00:32:27,900 --> 00:32:31,800
each other, just give people a
really comprehensive set of

566
00:32:31,800 --> 00:32:36,900
tools and practices to to make
sense of their pain and to then

567
00:32:37,000 --> 00:32:41,300
set their sights on, you know, a
life that is more meaningful, a

568
00:32:41,300 --> 00:32:43,800
sense of purpose, place and
significance.

569
00:32:44,900 --> 00:32:48,600
With all the things that you
have experienced and studied and

570
00:32:48,600 --> 00:32:53,200
put into your own programs.
Does any one thing stand out as

571
00:32:53,200 --> 00:32:54,600
boy?
I wish I knew this one at a

572
00:32:54,608 --> 00:32:56,500
younger age than I had found it
up.

573
00:32:57,700 --> 00:33:04,800
Gosh, I mean all of it.
Yeah I mean had I had access to

574
00:33:04,800 --> 00:33:08,500
these tools.
I would you know, I could have I

575
00:33:08,500 --> 00:33:12,200
remember literally being in
Junior High, I mean I was in

576
00:33:12,200 --> 00:33:15,400
pain and elementary school but
you know, So when you're that

577
00:33:15,400 --> 00:33:19,600
young, like your, you kind of
override it and, but by Junior

578
00:33:19,600 --> 00:33:23,700
High, I remember just like that
pain body that residue was like,

579
00:33:24,000 --> 00:33:28,100
like starting to drip in more
like molasses, it's also when my

580
00:33:28,100 --> 00:33:31,000
parents split up.
And so, I think that kind of

581
00:33:31,000 --> 00:33:34,000
was, you know, because sometimes
we have all of these

582
00:33:34,100 --> 00:33:37,600
subconscious and unconscious
patterns, and then that are

583
00:33:37,608 --> 00:33:39,700
stored in the body creating an
imbalance.

584
00:33:39,700 --> 00:33:43,400
And then, you know, how to
client years ago, who they said,

585
00:33:43,400 --> 00:33:46,600
but then they went and like It's
a reach for a pencil and that's

586
00:33:46,600 --> 00:33:48,000
what threw their back out,
right?

587
00:33:48,000 --> 00:33:51,900
So it's like that one piece of
my parents splitting up in

588
00:33:51,900 --> 00:33:55,900
seventh grade was just like the
last straw, but then I just felt

589
00:33:55,900 --> 00:33:59,500
like the accumulation of all
this wounding, really start to

590
00:33:59,800 --> 00:34:02,600
to grip.
And so, you know, I could have

591
00:34:02,600 --> 00:34:07,300
saved myself over a decade of
like going to this chiropractor.

592
00:34:07,300 --> 00:34:10,000
Nothing Chiropractic can be
really valuable but when there

593
00:34:10,000 --> 00:34:13,199
is a lot of trauma holding the
spine out of balance.

594
00:34:14,000 --> 00:34:17,300
It's like You may move it into a
new pattern and then it just

595
00:34:17,300 --> 00:34:20,100
gets pulled back through the
connective tissue and facha.

596
00:34:20,600 --> 00:34:25,100
So I could have saved myself a
decade of yeah, self-medicating

597
00:34:25,100 --> 00:34:28,699
and finding going to, you know,
healer and practitioners and

598
00:34:28,699 --> 00:34:32,100
therapists in, you know,
treatments that just weren't

599
00:34:32,100 --> 00:34:35,300
really meeting the where I was
at or moving the needle on my

600
00:34:35,300 --> 00:34:39,000
pain.
So once you dealt with the

601
00:34:39,000 --> 00:34:44,699
unresolved trauma and your
mindset and energy work your

602
00:34:44,699 --> 00:34:49,100
spine, literally unraveled and
extended on its own.

603
00:34:50,300 --> 00:34:52,900
Not, it wasn't a one and done,
so I'd say yeah.

604
00:34:53,300 --> 00:34:57,300
But I do remember my second when
I, after I had that first

605
00:34:57,300 --> 00:34:59,500
experience with my friend who
introduced me to Energy

606
00:34:59,500 --> 00:35:02,400
Medicine, I had a handful of
sessions with her throughout

607
00:35:02,400 --> 00:35:04,300
that year.
She looked two hours away at the

608
00:35:04,300 --> 00:35:05,900
time.
And then when I moved to

609
00:35:05,900 --> 00:35:07,600
Seattle, I started to study
Reiki.

610
00:35:07,600 --> 00:35:11,600
Intensely, and my Reiki teacher,
was a therapist.

611
00:35:11,600 --> 00:35:13,800
And she also practice a
Healthcare System called

612
00:35:13,800 --> 00:35:17,900
bodytalk which is another
modality that I practice and

613
00:35:17,900 --> 00:35:19,400
within my second session with
her.

614
00:35:19,600 --> 00:35:22,900
Her, you know, she balanced some
hormones to some emotions to

615
00:35:22,900 --> 00:35:25,800
some memories, and I got off the
table.

616
00:35:25,900 --> 00:35:28,800
And my spine just started to
like crack and adjust.

617
00:35:28,800 --> 00:35:32,400
And it's a I probably reclaimed
about a half inch and that

618
00:35:32,400 --> 00:35:35,800
further than that second session
with her and then gradually over

619
00:35:35,800 --> 00:35:39,400
time, you know, with more
meditation and with more, you

620
00:35:39,400 --> 00:35:43,800
know, Energy Medicine and all
these pieces just bit by bit

621
00:35:43,800 --> 00:35:47,800
just continuing to unravel.
So gradual process over.

622
00:35:47,900 --> 00:35:53,100
Yeah, the last 20 years This is
just amazing, whether it whether

623
00:35:53,100 --> 00:35:56,200
took the entire lifetime.
Just that again, I'm sure so

624
00:35:56,200 --> 00:35:59,600
many doctors said, a physical
impossibility yet yet here you

625
00:35:59,600 --> 00:36:01,700
are.
Yeah, cool.

626
00:36:02,800 --> 00:36:07,400
I wonder if there's a particular
book or a practice or program

627
00:36:07,700 --> 00:36:12,100
that you've experienced that you
would recommend as someone's

628
00:36:12,100 --> 00:36:14,300
like, very first step if
everything we talked about so

629
00:36:14,300 --> 00:36:16,600
far are just as going, like,
over someone's head, you know

630
00:36:16,600 --> 00:36:21,200
what's like a nice introduction.
You know, I think the

631
00:36:21,200 --> 00:36:24,200
breadcrumbs that lead people to
a healing path are unique for

632
00:36:24,200 --> 00:36:28,400
each person.
So for me, even before I was

633
00:36:28,400 --> 00:36:30,800
introduced to Energy Medicine, I
was probably just starting to

634
00:36:30,800 --> 00:36:34,700
read some books on mindfulness
and meditation.

635
00:36:35,700 --> 00:36:39,600
And so and for me time and
nature was just a really good

636
00:36:39,600 --> 00:36:45,100
way to reconnect with myself, a
lot of my students like in my

637
00:36:45,100 --> 00:36:48,200
work to the book, the body keeps
the score.

638
00:36:48,200 --> 00:36:51,000
So for folks who Want to develop
a better understanding of how we

639
00:36:51,000 --> 00:36:54,700
hold trauma inside the body that
could be kind of triggering for

640
00:36:54,700 --> 00:36:59,400
folks to and, you know, I so
what I like is to actually give

641
00:36:59,400 --> 00:37:02,900
people actual practices to help
them heal, instead of just

642
00:37:02,900 --> 00:37:06,300
having an intellectual
understanding of, you know, pain

643
00:37:06,300 --> 00:37:11,400
and wounding but give people
practical access to just ways to

644
00:37:11,400 --> 00:37:13,000
heal.
So I'd say Reiki, I'd say

645
00:37:13,000 --> 00:37:17,400
meditation.
I'd say mindfulness movement are

646
00:37:17,400 --> 00:37:20,600
all big pieces.
I think it's just the most

647
00:37:20,600 --> 00:37:23,700
important thing is to do
something and if what you've

648
00:37:23,700 --> 00:37:26,300
been doing has been working, do
something different.

649
00:37:27,000 --> 00:37:29,600
Yeah.
And just follow keep following

650
00:37:29,600 --> 00:37:32,700
those breadcrumbs where you know
you may work with a practitioner

651
00:37:32,700 --> 00:37:36,000
or a therapist or a Healer and
you know that may not be the

652
00:37:36,000 --> 00:37:40,000
right fit but then, you know,
don't just throw out that no

653
00:37:40,000 --> 00:37:44,200
healer or no therapist or you
know, this or that is valuable

654
00:37:44,200 --> 00:37:48,800
you just have so much of the
therapeutic benefit of any

655
00:37:49,400 --> 00:37:52,900
Experience is not just the
actual modality.

656
00:37:52,900 --> 00:37:55,000
It's the the relationship you
have.

657
00:37:55,000 --> 00:37:58,600
So it's about finding you know
someone who you can really build

658
00:37:58,600 --> 00:38:01,400
rapport and trust and that's
where you develop the

659
00:38:01,400 --> 00:38:04,800
psychological safety for the
body and the brain and the

660
00:38:04,808 --> 00:38:07,700
nervous system to start to re
pattern.

661
00:38:08,500 --> 00:38:12,300
But again what I find the value
of synthesizing Energy Medicine

662
00:38:12,300 --> 00:38:15,800
with cymatics and mindfulness
and Trauma and Neuroscience is

663
00:38:15,800 --> 00:38:18,800
so you can actually heal on all
levels.

664
00:38:19,300 --> 00:38:23,200
You know, there's an idea that
the body heals top-down or

665
00:38:23,200 --> 00:38:26,600
bottom-up, meaning, for some
folks, depending on how they're

666
00:38:26,600 --> 00:38:30,400
wired, they need to actually
figure some things out in a

667
00:38:30,400 --> 00:38:33,900
lecture Ali before it trickles
down and shifts things in their

668
00:38:33,900 --> 00:38:36,500
body.
For other people, they process

669
00:38:36,500 --> 00:38:39,100
bottom up.
So they need to feel something

670
00:38:39,100 --> 00:38:43,000
shift physically in their body.
Before the light bulb goes off

671
00:38:43,100 --> 00:38:45,700
in their brain.
What I love about working with

672
00:38:45,700 --> 00:38:48,900
Energy Medicine, is I look at
healing is happening.

673
00:38:49,000 --> 00:38:53,200
Ting multi-directional e.
So for example I had a client

674
00:38:53,200 --> 00:38:57,400
years ago that had a
football-sized fibroid that you

675
00:38:57,400 --> 00:39:01,300
know through our work together,
started to dissolve and Shrink.

676
00:39:01,900 --> 00:39:05,800
But really what we were doing
was addressing how that was the

677
00:39:05,800 --> 00:39:10,500
overwhelming experience of grief
and fear and shame from lots of

678
00:39:10,500 --> 00:39:13,600
lived experiences that at that
time at one point we're too

679
00:39:13,600 --> 00:39:16,900
overwhelming.
So helping her system have the

680
00:39:16,908 --> 00:39:22,500
capacity to process those Oceans
help to shrink the the fibroid

681
00:39:23,100 --> 00:39:25,800
but in doing so, you know,
behaviors and beliefs started to

682
00:39:25,800 --> 00:39:27,800
shift.
So moving into healthier

683
00:39:27,800 --> 00:39:31,800
relationships and you know
moving forward on a career path

684
00:39:31,800 --> 00:39:36,100
that had felt halted.
So it's like when we start to

685
00:39:36,100 --> 00:39:40,100
shift things in one area of the
body, it's signaling to the

686
00:39:40,100 --> 00:39:43,300
brain and the nervous system to
start to re pattern as well.

687
00:39:43,700 --> 00:39:47,500
And so there's something really
elegant and profound about how

688
00:39:47,500 --> 00:39:51,600
effective Energy Medicine.
In is to heal Body Mind and

689
00:39:51,600 --> 00:39:55,000
Spirit simultaneously instead of
just kind of top-down or

690
00:39:55,000 --> 00:39:56,700
bottom-up.
Yeah.

691
00:39:56,700 --> 00:39:59,600
That that really describes my
experiences with it as well,

692
00:39:59,600 --> 00:40:01,500
that it's again.
Neurosurgery.

693
00:40:01,500 --> 00:40:03,300
Oh, we're multi-dimensional
beings.

694
00:40:03,300 --> 00:40:06,100
And when you really get into
indirect missing like, oh wow,

695
00:40:06,100 --> 00:40:10,000
yeah, we are and I can kind of
feel the healing Ripple through

696
00:40:10,000 --> 00:40:11,400
through all those different
aspects of me.

697
00:40:11,400 --> 00:40:17,100
So also, so while we're just a
few days into this new year, I

698
00:40:17,100 --> 00:40:18,800
wonder what are you looking
forward to Greg?

699
00:40:18,900 --> 00:40:23,100
I love it.
Well, in the this past year, in

700
00:40:23,100 --> 00:40:26,000
the fall, I started doing some
Open Water swims.

701
00:40:26,000 --> 00:40:30,500
I live here in San Francisco,
and so as the weather continues

702
00:40:30,500 --> 00:40:35,300
to get a little colder and foggy
here, I'm looking forward to

703
00:40:35,300 --> 00:40:38,700
continuing to challenge myself,
to get out into the Open Water.

704
00:40:38,700 --> 00:40:42,900
That's been really invigorating,
and just a whole new.

705
00:40:42,900 --> 00:40:48,000
Excuse me, a great practice to
just help me move beyond the

706
00:40:48,000 --> 00:40:52,300
limitations of My mind and the
fears that I have and

707
00:40:52,300 --> 00:40:55,900
creativity, you know, I've
choked years ago that I'd reach

708
00:40:55,900 --> 00:40:59,200
a point in my own healing path
that it would just open me up to

709
00:40:59,200 --> 00:41:02,800
more of my own creativity.
So yeah, I'm looking forward to

710
00:41:02,800 --> 00:41:07,500
making more art and to spending
more time in nature and I have a

711
00:41:07,500 --> 00:41:10,700
background in activism.
So before I was on this healing

712
00:41:10,700 --> 00:41:14,300
path, I was an activist, so very
purpose and Mission driven.

713
00:41:14,300 --> 00:41:18,800
So I'm kind of feeling into how
to all these worlds, collide.

714
00:41:19,000 --> 00:41:23,200
Terms of my healing and my
activism and just my artistic

715
00:41:23,300 --> 00:41:27,300
kind of sense.
So I'm kind of in that inquiry

716
00:41:27,300 --> 00:41:30,000
and just looking forward to
carving out more space for all

717
00:41:30,000 --> 00:41:35,000
of that.
Sounds interesting, powerful and

718
00:41:35,000 --> 00:41:36,800
needed.
So, cool.

719
00:41:37,300 --> 00:41:40,700
So Greg, what's the best way for
people to learn more about you

720
00:41:40,700 --> 00:41:43,900
and everything that you're up to
and and are creating sure?

721
00:41:44,000 --> 00:41:46,400
Yeah, correct.
Waiting.com is where folks can

722
00:41:46,400 --> 00:41:49,100
learn about me.
I have limited space to I work

723
00:41:49,100 --> 00:41:52,400
with clients one-on-one, and
then I also have the person, of

724
00:41:52,400 --> 00:41:55,600
course, and community, that has
the entire training program with

725
00:41:55,600 --> 00:41:59,800
the energy medicine.
And so, yeah, folks can learn

726
00:41:59,800 --> 00:42:01,800
about me there and it all starts
with a phone call.

727
00:42:01,800 --> 00:42:05,000
So you schedule, you know, a
discovery call and we get to

728
00:42:05,000 --> 00:42:07,800
learn where you're at.
Where you want to be, you know

729
00:42:07,800 --> 00:42:09,400
what you've tried?
What's worked?

730
00:42:09,400 --> 00:42:11,100
What hasn't, what are your
goals?

731
00:42:11,500 --> 00:42:14,800
And it's really an opportunity
for us to vet each other out so

732
00:42:14,800 --> 00:42:17,600
we can discern.
If working together is going to

733
00:42:17,600 --> 00:42:20,600
create a win-win No, I'm all
about getting people results.

734
00:42:20,600 --> 00:42:23,700
So there's like dozens of
testimonials on my website.

735
00:42:23,700 --> 00:42:27,000
So folks can get a feel for how
I've helped other folks, and if

736
00:42:27,000 --> 00:42:30,200
they see themselves and some of
that potential within

737
00:42:30,200 --> 00:42:32,700
themselves.
Yeah we get on a call and we

738
00:42:32,700 --> 00:42:36,300
feel into can you know an arc of
transformation together?

739
00:42:36,300 --> 00:42:39,200
Be the right fit?
Awesome.

740
00:42:39,500 --> 00:42:41,400
